Strengthen What Sustains You | May Blog

| Angela Robinson

May is a call to remain connected to God as you grow. Before you bloom into all He created you to be, He is strengthening what will sustain you for the journey ahead.

It’s time to strengthen what sustains you.

For months I’ve felt a strong sense that God is calling us to rediscover who He created us to be and to live deeply rooted in our true identity in Him. There’s been a long season of uncertainty with too many distractions. You’ve been in a place of waiting, but the weariness hasn’t lifted and it feels like time is taking too long.

This is the place I believe so many are in right now. After seasons of resting, refining, and stepping forward, there’s an expectation of immediate bloom.

But God works differently than our expectations. He knows how easily the world pulls us in different directions. He knows there will be seasons that feel heavy, distracting, or uncertain. And He knows that the only way to faithfully steward what He has placed in your life is to remain close to Him.

This is not a month to be distracted by another person’s season. Some may be soaring, some blooming, some harvesting, and some still resting. Your assignment is to remain obedient to His commands and staying close enough to hear His voice for the next step.

Abide in the Source
“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in Me.” — John 15:4

To abide means to remain, dwell, stay connected, and make your home in. God never designed you to live off borrowed strength, borrowed revelation, or borrowed momentum. You were created to draw directly from Him.

Many feel weary because they are striving to sustain without remaining connected to the Source. This month, return to simple intimacy: prayer, scripture, worship, obedience. Abiding is an action word that describes our way of living when we draw nourishment from Him and allow His life to flow through us.

Strengthen Your Convictions
“Be rooted and built up in Him, established in the faith…”
 Colossians 2:7

If you do not know who God made you to be, comparison and culture will define you. Conviction is not stubbornness, it is clarity. It's knowing what God has said and choosing to stand on it even when others are running different races.

Some around you may appear to be soaring. There is a tendency to feel “behind” or “not enough” which brings the temptation of running ahead of God’s pace. But if you chase another person’s pace, favor, or platform, you risk stepping outside of the very process God is using to build you.

Eve was distracted by what seemed desirable and questioned what God had already spoken. Distraction still works the same way. Stay anchored in truth and focused on what God is speaking to you. Stay in your lane and with Him.

Prune What Slows You Down
“Let us throw off everything that hinders… and run with endurance the race set before us.”  — Hebrews 12:1

Transformation and growth often requires letting go. God prunes us not to punish, but to prepare. He removes what drains life so strength can return.

This may be the month to release:

  • unhealthy habits
  • numbing behaviors
  • constant comparison
  • cluttered schedules
  • distractions that dull your hunger for God

Fasting and prayer are powerful in this season. They create space, sharpen focus, and strengthen spirit over flesh. Some things do not need management. They need removal.

Abide While You Run
Running your race with God was never meant to be separate from abiding in Him. The race is not about moving faster, doing more, or keeping up with others. It is about endurance, faithfulness, and staying connected to the One who gives you strength.

This is a lifelong journey with God, with the finish line set on eternity.

If you try to run ahead without abiding, you will grow weary. You will chase validation. You may begin to question God’s instructions. You may carry weights you were never meant to pick up. But when you remain connected to Him, when you dwell in His presence daily, you run differently.

You run with peace.
You run with clarity.
You run with endurance.

Abiding is not what you do before the race. It is how you sustain it for the long haul. God has designed you uniquely. He knows the pace, rhythms, and nourishment required for your life.

Take inventory of what you need right now in this season. Is it rest? Discipline? Consistency? Courage? Clarity? Be curious with God in learning what strengthens you so you can steward it faithfully.

Transformation is happening. God is on the move. Let Him continue to do His work in and through you. Your assignment is to prune distractions, strengthen your convictions, and nourish what God has planted in you.

The goal is not to start fast, but to finish faithful—still rooted, still abiding.

DECLARATIONS
1. I know who God made me to be and walk in conviction.
2. I release distraction and run the race set before me.
3. I abide daily and grow stronger for my calling.
